Dagukou Fort Ruins Museum

Lying 45 kilometers southeast of Tianjin City, the Dagukou Fort was built in 1817 to protect the capital, Beijing. As a heroic symbol of China's fight against foreign invasion, especially the Second Opium War and the Invasion of the Eight-Power Allied Forces, the emplacement requests an unassumbling but impressive building to contain its memory of the invaded history. To emphasis the forts’ major status in the site, the museum did not obtain a complete image. At first sight, the horizontally developed mass emerges as gaps of the earth, while the random scattered layout is actually a result to form visual relations between the forts and interior spaces. By this means, the scene of fort becomes an organic part of the exhibition.
